Astronomers today are engaged in an extensive search for planets in other star systems. Among all planets and exoplanets discovered so far, not even one truly Earth-like planet has been found.

The physical, chemical and astronomical conditions on our home planet Earth offer us almost uniquely favourable conditions for habitation. This is becoming ever clearer in the light of modern scientific knowledge. Just a few selected examples are used to demonstrate the unique nature of our earth.
